Meeting the Family in Two Days
In just a couple days Diya, Baba (her dad), and I are going to make the trek up to Truckee, CA, over the next two days. We are going to be stopping in Redwood City, to visit with my uncle and his wife, Ray and Sue, and also to see my mom who is staying with them for the trip. My mom will finally be able to meet Diya's dad after all this time.
Every day I am getting more and more excited for this trip, and to see family. I'm not sure how Diya is feeling at the moment; probably a mix of excitement and some worry of the unknown. But I think it will be great all around. My family is so kind and fun, at least in my eyes, and I'm confident they will love her.
This coming Saturday marks the 'event' celebrating our wedding, and I have been thinking a bit about how things will start. Should I say a speech? Will Ray? As there are a couple things I would like to say, I do have a few ideas floating in the back of my head. That's something I'll probably brainstorm a bit both on the way up and on the days leading up to the event.
I am reminded writing this (and have been thinking about this more and more the past couple weeks) that the last time so many of us were together was at my grandpa's funeral in 2021 or 2022, and before that was his 50th birthday four years before that. The last time before that must have been in my 20s or something, or maybe after I finished high school back in 2002. That's 22 years ago from today.
It has been too long, is the point, and I can't wait to see this family again so soon.
